Yang's Dumpling: Crispy, Golden Brown, Delicious

If you're craving fast food or a satisfying snack, try Yang's Dumpling for a change. The affordable and tasty dumpling chain has multiple locations across Shanghai and beyond. ShengJian Bao is a traditional Shanghai delicacy, Instead of the usual steamed form of dumplings, ShengJian is crisped up on a large stove-top. Originating in Shanghai's Wujiang Road (a food-stall street) in 1994, Yang's Dumpling is definitely worth a go(instead of going to McDonalds again),

Many other restaurants serve ShengJian in Shanghai, with an emphasis on tradition and authenticity. At Yang's Dumpling, they attempt to introduce ShengJian to the masses. With their crab-flavored ShengJian, Marinara-sauce flavored ShengJian, and shrimp ShengJian, alot of their items have personal twists when compared to a traditional pork ShengJian. They also serve many different noodles with unique toppings such as tofu skin and chicken parts, taking inspiration from the diverse Chinese cuisine.

Hot and Spicy noodles - 14rmb

Suanlafen, a Sichuan classic, includes a spicy and sour broth, sweet-potato noodles, and garnishes of cilantro and toasted nuts. Vinegar and chili oil are the main ingredients that flavor the soup and provide the unique taste.

Beef and Tofu Vermicelli noodles - 12rmb

Among the locals, it seems this option is much more popular(probably due to spice tolerance levels in Shanghai). It has a far milder flavor without the intensity that a real beef broth would have, but the tofu that soaked up all of the liquid was very tasty. The texture of the vermicelli noodles was quite unique.

Shengjian Combo Plate - 16rmb

FIrst of all, the filling - shrimp wasn't mashed up as you might expect it to be. They were perfectly bouncy and the sesame seeds were a great complement to offset the sweetness of the the broth inside the sheng Jian. The pork filling was just as expected, but still nice and classic. There is a special way to eat Shengjian. You should use your chopsticks to rest one Shengjian at a time on your spoon. Then, poke a hole to slurp the liquid out. Finally, devour it.

Before heading to your McDonalds drive-through for the same old big mac, try a filthy(somehow i mean this in a good way) shengJian at Yang's Dumpling.
