Massaman curry - est. 60rmb
Sometimes, western food is just too bland(come on, you have to admit salt and pepper isn't great without other spices), but something about Chinese food isn't appealing to you either. Thai or Vietnamese cuisine is usually the choice I'd go for on these days. In Shanghai, "Simply Thai" has most of the market for Thai food with locations in XinTianDi urban city centers to Chamtime Plaza in Zhangjiang. This blog will introduce a new Thai restaurant on the block.
Interior Design
The restaurant preserves an authentic feel with wood paneling engraved with thai -style patterns. The brick ceiling also forms a rustic interior combined with framed paintings and windows that peer into the prep kitchen.
It is situated on the 1st floor of Kerry Parkside, with a corner spot that feels a little bit too tight. The exterior of the restaurant grabs the eye, however, with a digital display and skewers placed on a wire rack for show.
Dishes
Papaya Salad - est. 40rmb
The pungent flavor of fish sauce knocks you down as soon as you take a bite. The papaya and soy-glazed barbeque pork complements it with it's crunchy texture and smoky flavor. Not too different from a regular papaya salad at most other joints, but still worth a try.
Stir-fried pork with Basil and Chili - est. 60rmb
Pad Kra Pao is a traditional Thai dish that is served with a fried egg(so no, this restaurant didn't run out of ideas and decide to put a heap of pork on top of a heap of rice). Although the dish was generally well-seasoned and the runny egg added a luxurious texture, the strong basil and chili flavor was missing. Fun fact: cooking eggs in Asia often involve crisping up the egg white and semi-frying them up.
Steamed fish with Thai Chili Sauce - est. 180rmb
Soft succulent flesh with a spicy and sour sauce(not in the orange-chicken kind of way), is what this seafood dish offers. It was great even though I'm usually not a fan of steamed fish. However, since it comes at a hefty price, I'd recommend going for many different menu items instead of this one dish.
Massaman curry - est. 60rmb
Massaman curry has a sweet undertone and a herby taste with the lemongrass, coriander, and galangal added to it. There should be a balance of sweet, spicy, and sour. It's creation comes from Persian, Indian, and Malay roots. It is not to be confused with typical red of yellow-curries with the addition of peanuts as an extra ingredient.

Final Overview and Location
While the space might feel a little cramped, the atmosphere is overall cozy and welcoming. Its definitely a fresh change to the Thai scene in Shanghai. Instead of making instant curry with cubes of sadness, try out this restaurant. Although the food was slightly pricy, the rent of Kerry Parkside is probably why it charges higher for its dishes. It would be a great lunch or dinner spot for families.
